Because discipleship was always meant to move forward.
The final commission Jesus gave before he ascended to heaven was to “make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).” Today we are great at inviting. We invite people into our homes, to small groups and church, but there isn’t much “making.”
More than we need disciples, we need those who can MAKE disciples—those who have the heart and skill-set required to build thriving followers of Jesus.
Over the last 15 years, I have learned that making disciples is hard work, but it is not complicated. If you are a follower of Jesus, you are commanded to make disciples. I believe you can do it, but more importantly, Jesus believed you could do it!
